BRIEF HISTORY AND DISCRIPTION OF THE SCHOOL |
|
| Siggiewi Primary was previously located in the building now hosting the Local Council. The present school was built as a primary and a girls’ secondary school but later it began to host only kindergarten and primary pupils.
The school forms part of St Ignatius College and is situated in a modernized building with two large play areas, a swimming pool, an auditorium, a kitchen garden and an acquarium that adorns the main school foyer. The school hosts round 600 pupils. In Kindergarten children learn through play and discovery. The main subjects taught during the Primary years are Maltese, English, Mathematics, Science and Technology, Religion and Social Studies. Drama, Music, Art, Physical Education and PSCD are also part of the Primary curriculum. There are special rooms in school such as the ones for the school counsellor, the school nurse and doctor, the nurture class and the school library. Various activities are held in the school, such as the teddy bear hospital, kidlympics, brain gym, sports day, week-end visit to Gozo, Celebration day and a farewell activity for our Year 6 students. The school was awarded the Dyslexia school award, the Green flag, the Dinja Wahda Gold Award and the Blue Banner given by Birdlife. Two book fairs are organized annually. Pupils are also encouraged to take part in national competitions especially the World Book Day competition. There are several committees at school such as the Ekoskola Committee, the Pupils’ Council and the Parents’ Council. |
