Education is the passport to the future, for tomorrow belongs to those who prepare for it today.

Dear Educators, Legal Guardians, Members of the Community and Students,

It is my greatest pleasure to introduce myself through the College Official Website, aiming at providing
timely information about the services we provide, and it will also act as a point of reference for all the needs related to your children’s educational journey. The website serves as a news portal of what is available at the College as well as a bridge to other educationally related sites.

St. Ignatius College tries to follow on its patron saint principle to always act For the Greater Glory of God or Ad Maiorem Dei Gloriam. In practice, this translates into the commitment of all the College Staff, be they from the administration, the teaching and non-teaching ones, the psycho-social, and the maintenance team, to offer a service of excellence for the benefit of all our learners. The College community comprises around 650 educators, 50 senior leadership team members, 25 clerical staff and 50 maintenance staff serving a learner’s population of approximately 4, 000 students. Additionally, these eight schools are supported by a very dedicated and hardworking psycho-social team who despite the huge workload always excels in their professionalism to reach out to students, their parents and all the stakeholders involved. The psycho-social team includes:

  • One Educational Psychologist
  • One Psychology Practitioner
  • Two Psychology Assistants
  • Principal Counsellor
  • Trainee Counsellor
  • One Career Advisor
  • One Social Worker

Supporting these professionals through a school-based service, we have the Blossom therapists at Ħal Qormi Primary Schools and the Middle School, the Inclusion Coordinators (Primary and Middle and Secondary Schools) and the Family-Community-School Link Officers at Ħal Qormi schools.

On the curricular side, we have an Education Officer (Curriculum), 1 Head of Department (Assessment for Learning) and 1 Head of Department (Literacy – Primary). Other support professionals are not college-based but help us when the need arises. The College is indebted to these people as without their support, it would not be possible to provide an enriching educational experience.

I am truly honoured to be part of this team and look forward to continue working with you all to offer all our learners a holistic educational experience that attends to their academic, emotional and social needs. We believe that by taking care of these three core aspects we will be on the right track in ensuring the highest standards possible. Each learner deserves the best, and we aim for that. On our own we cannot achieve this aim; however, with the collaboration and support of the parents, legal guardians and also the rest of the community we are confident that we can achieve this together.

Working as a team is the core of what we do. In fact, St. Ignatius College’s motto centres around this principle of togetherness, and the value of fairness through the provision of an equitable, inclusive and socially just environment within our eight schools. The learning atmosphere that permeates our schools allows our learners not only to make mistakes but also to embrace them because through mistakes we grow and when we do, our intelligence increases. In this regard, the College does not look at intelligence as something fixed but one which results from a growth mindset as explained by Prof. Carol Dweck. Growth mindset emphasises that success results from the right amount of effort on the right things, hence resilience, perseverance and the right aptitude to learning are stressed.

I encourage you to support us in this by sharing our vision, mission and philosophy to ensure consistency to our learners, your children. We strive to have a school learning community with respectful attitudes towards each other.

In summing up, St. Ignatius College Leadership Team is working hard on several initiatives to enrich the learners’ experiences and to bring us closer for the ultimate benefit of our community of learners. Once again, I reiterate my call for your support and to approach us at any time in case of difficulties.

We are here to serve you, and we trust in your full cooperation and collaboration.
