The Counselling Service
Service Description
The Counselling Service at St. Ignatius College offers emotional help, where the counsellor helps the client to describe difficulties they are experiencing or going through. In this case, our clients are the students. We offer a safe space, with no judgment and confidentiality, and help the children cope with their difficulties and find solutions to their issues.
The Counselling Team of St Ignatius College consists of:
- Ms Michelle Frendo
- Ms Joanne Vella
- Ms. Fiona Fino (Trainee Counsellor).
Both work and support students to help them deal with different difficult situations, namely:
- Parents’ Separation Cases
- Depression
- Anxiety
- Panic Attacks
- Self-Harm
- Suicidal Ideations
- Bereavement
- Family Issues
- Mental Health Issues
- Social Difficulties
- Witnessing of Domestic Violence
- Witnessing of Drug Use
- Bullying
The service operates through a referral system: Teachers, Guidance Teachers, Assistant Heads, Heads of Schools, community agencies, Parents and/or the children themselves can refer to the Counselling Team students who in need of support. The college counsellors offer counselling in all the 7 schools that make up St. Ignatius College.
Additionally, the Counselling Team in the college also works hand in hand with the parents of the children, Appogg, FSWS, HBTS, CYPS and other professionals to ensure the best interest of the client: the child.
